Some people present with different disabilities, many of which are not immediately apparent to providers or educators. How can therapy professionals effectively assess & help these individuals?  What do we need to know as educators about sex and ability? How can our cultural attitudes about visible and invisible disabilities interfere or encourage personal agency? Through discussions, a panel of people with varying challenges, didactic information, personal experiences, and interactive activities, participants will discover strategies and coping mechanisms they can use and new ways of envisioning sex.

This program meets the requirements for the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT) and is approved for 6 CE credits. These CE credits may be applied toward AASECT Certification and renewal of certification. Institute for Sexuality Education & Enlightenment, Provider #11-113-C.   • Participants will be able to assess their own attitudes regarding sex and ability to evaluate the impact of those attitudes on clients, students and others.
  • Participants will be able to list some sexual coping strategies for people with varying ability levels.
  • Participants will be able to recognize cultural attitudes about ability and sex that can be barriers to people with ability challenges.
  • Participants will be able to name at least one visible and at least one invisible ability challenge that impacts sexuality.
  • Participants will be able to redefine sex and sexuality as a strategy for envisioning new ways of working with and for people of varying disabilities.
  • Participants will be able to list some support systems for people with varying ability levels in the area of sexuality.
