This course will help participants to recognize intersectionalities between sexuality and specific cultural groups in the US; allow participants to begin to define culture in new ways; and help participants to understand how race, religion and ethnicity inform beliefs, values and decision making with regard to sexual behaviors, sexual health and sexual identities. Join us for a fascinating discussion of these topics and a new way to look at ourselves.

This program meets the requirements of the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT) and is approved for 6 CE credits. These CE credits may be applied toward AASECT certification and renewal of certification.

Course Objectives
  • Participants will be able to Identify the differences between cultural relativism and ethnocentrism.
  • Participants will be able to define culture and its relationship to sexuality.
  • Participants will be able to analyze how race, culture, and religion inform individual beliefs, values, and decision making regarding sexuality and sexual health.
  • Participants will be able to Identify myths that are created and assigned to specific racial and ethnic groups (i.e. stereotypes, media influences, etc).
  • Participants will be able to Practice reflexivity (recognizing one's space, place, and how these impact interactions individual and in social settings)
  • Participants will be able to discuss different examples where culture and sexuality intersect in sexology.
  • Participants will be able to identify areas that may be a challenge or resistance for providing care.
